914 am cdt wed jul 15 2026
for waters beyond five nautical miles of shore on lake michigan.
waves are provided as a range of significant wave heights, which
is the average of the highest 1/3 of the wave, along with the
average height of the highest 10% of the waves which will
occasionally be encountered.
.synopsis...
high pressure around 30.2 inches over the midwest and great lakes
region will continue to bring dry and warm westerly winds across
lake michigan through this morning. a weak area of low pressure
around 29.9 inches will gradually work its way across lake
superior and down lake michigan through the day pushing the high
pressure out and bringing a northeasterly wind shift across the
lake later today into thursday. wildfire smoke from northern mn
and northwestern ontario will reduce visibility across the
northern third of the open waters to 1 nm or less at times today
and thursday and a marine dense smoke advisory has been issued.
smoke is expected to spread southward, but uncertain on how low
visibilities will fall and will monitor if we need to expand the
advisory further south.
will see lighter winds on thursday as high pressure around 30.1
inches briefly builds back in before influence from a low pressure
around 29.7 inches developing over the northern plains push
eastward through the weekend bringing more southwesterly flow. as
a result a cold front will drag across the lake resulting in
northerly wind shift toward the end of the weekend. additionally
will see periodic shower and thunderstorm chances across the lake
for the end of the week through the weekend.
