open lake forecast for lake michigan
national weather service milwaukee/sullivan wi
301 am cdt fri oct 31 2025
for waters beyond five nautical miles of shore on lake michigan.
waves are provided as a range of significant wave heights, which
is the average of the highest 1/3 of the wave, along with the
average height of the highest 10% of the waves which will
occasionally be encountered.
.synopsis...
29.2 inch low pressure is centered over the northeastern united
states this morning, resulting in breezy northwest winds across lake
michigan. northwest winds will continue through today as weak low
pressure of 29.9 inches moves into wisconsin from the northern great
plains. winds will turn northerly tonight as the low shifts south
and 30.3 inch high pressure builds into the northern great plains.
lake effect showers will continue into this afternoon across the
eastern half of lake michigan, with rain chances expanding to the
entirety of the waters tonight as the aforementioned low pressure
passes by. precip chances will linger through the day on saturday.
rain showers developing over the southern third of lake michigan
could produce an isolated waterspout or two, though widespread
waterspout activity is not anticipated at this time. northerly winds
will decrease saturday night as high pressure moves across the open
waters.
winds will shift out of the southwest and quickly increase during
the day on sunday, when 29.2 inch low pressure is forecast to
develop across the canadian great plains. southwest winds will
continue to strengthen sunday evening and night as the area of low
pressure advances toward the hudson bay. gales are possible during
this time frame, with trends being monitored for potential gale
warnings in coming forecasts. a cold front will cross lake michigan
during the day monday, resulting in a west to northwest wind shift
and additional gusts near gale force. winds will weaken monday night
as 30.2 inch high pressure crosses the waters. widespread areas of
rain are likely sunday night.

open lake forecast for lake michigan
national weather service milwaukee/sullivan wi
