The issue is this: If you can't afford the park entrance fee or the board fee, don't come up to the lake. The people at the entrance gate are tired of all the complaints they receive for doing their job and asking you to pay to use the lake and windsurfing area. We as local windsurfers have worked hard to keep our access to the lake open and have maintained a good relationship with park staff. The head Ranger told us that he could take down the signs and not provide us access. So be nice to the workers. Tell them thank you for what they do. Be happy to pay to use this great wind resource. You can spend all day at a beautiful spot for very little money.

When I Ist went there in '84, it was PER BOARD.
We were on a Jalama trip, each person had 2 surfboards and one windsurf board, except I had 3 windsurf boards.
Quite the argument, sure we could have left, but charging us per SURFBOARD? At Lopez?
Rangers mostly only abided by rules, with no logic.
Same at Folsom Lake in those days, Rancho Seco, and Comanche.

Fee has gone up a bit since first posting (see picture). Annual year vehicle pass is now $120 or $108 senior. Annual board pass $36 or $32 senior, and I don't think they are counting boards. It works out to around 10 trips breaks even for a day versus year pass. Great day today with avg hitting low 20s and warm for early April. Been going to Port SLO a lot but picked a fine day for my first Lopez foil of the season.

Mike, I watch you foil for a while after I got blowen off the water. You windsurf foil with style and grace. Lots of fun to watch. I think what the lake has to offer far outweighs any of the fees. let's all just keep the complaining to a minimum.
