I think it's silly.
But 3 out of 7 days, I rig next to wingers who foil 360 both upwind and downwind, jump 8 feet high....that's the rear wing height above water...and fully extolled the virtues of the "future".
Even some current CaLCup racer's are trying it.
Sometimes, they even talk to me. |

Of course I'll try it pretty soon.
Still riding the 600 kitewing for windfoiling. Seems within 1-2 mph wind from the 1220 wing and a bit faster.
Typical 5-17 mph wind day, 4.7 and a bit overpowered in the gusts going upwind like a race foil.
Downwind in 2' high windswell isn't fun yet as I might need 3'windswells to stay on foil without the sail. |

One unexpected benefit for me from winging is my weight loss. The wing requires you to exert more effort and involve more of your muscle groups to make it go..especially in either light winds or strong winds. It's better than going to the gym, which is not really safe to do in this pandemic. I've shed almost 15 lbs since I've started winging and the weight loss has clearly helped with my knee issues..plus my wife mentioned that my 6 pack is showing again |

I totally agree. As a windsurfer with no kite experience, I am accustomed to 2-dimensional pull of the sail (I am not good enough for looping or jumping), so I must to constantly remind myself about 3-dimensional nature of the wing.
But I am learning; it just takes time (I hope). |

Day 3 more better. Used the 5.4 and was able to stay up wind and get several knee starts. Only got down the beach once and that was because the wind let up a bit. Well that's my story. Got several non foiling turns one on my feet. I had more fun today and feel I made some progress. Now that I can stay up wind better, I should be able head off pump and get on foil....Next time. |

I just came across a video of a guy in Australia who managed to pump his 7.2m wing from 6 kpm (3.7 mph) to plane and foiling up to 28 kpm (17.4 mph). Well, can anyone kite at 3.7 mph?
