For a guy learning to foil, a flat water lake will be much easier to learn balance and foil control, than a place like the Gorge. Lite gusty winds are better than strong gusty winds to learn on. My local lake turned on today for my first ever 3.7 foil day. It was a blast. That said I did learn that even on a small lake when its that wind with rolling swells it difficult to up haul and hard to water start a 3.7..people say that its best to rig for the gusts. If you can water start your sail is to big. On a 5.5 or 4.7 its not really an issue. On this 3.7 day I was in good balance and control and wouldn't have wanted to be any bigger even it was to small of a sail to water start... |
