“If 'ifs' and 'buts' were candy and nuts, wouldn't it be a merry Easter.

What if instead he wants a 69 liter wave board , if in case he moves to the Canary Island?
You are no longer amusing.

Here we go again. This is the same thing that happened last time I wanted some beta on light wind boards. It has now been 11 replies in a row that have nothing to do with my original question....

Does anyone have beta and/or first hand opinions on the pros/cons of:

Gecko vs Magic Ride vs Volar vs (other 80cm wide board options in the 140L range?)

Keep it friendly folks. There's enough chaos in the world now. No need to lash out at each other...

Cheers,
MM

John is correct, especially in regards to the Goya as it is a newer board. There are far too many 80 cm/140 liter boards out there to list. Generally speaking, boards that are designed to turn better will be slower to plane. On average, the earliest planing & fastest 140 liter/80 cm+ boards will have Tuttle or Deep Tuttle boxes. The boards you have chosen in that range with Power boxes are more recreational boards that will be easier to turn.

I'd love to tell you there is a board out there that is both the earliest to plane & most maneuverable but the reality is it doesn't exist.

I do have an Isonic 110 & a Falcon 142. The difference in passive planing between the two boards is massive.

I don't have an exact comparison, but close. I have owned a JP x-cite ride 160 and Fanatic Gecko 133. Both boards worked well on gusty inland lakes, but I favored the Gecko for no clear reason. Perhaps related to the smaller size and was still able to get it planning in about the same amount of wind as the larger JP. My subjective sense was that the Gecko was more durable. I don't think you would go wrong with either board. Purchase based on price and availability.

Thanks for the beta! I am leaning towards the Gecko at this point. I'm hoping to work on dialing in the jibes, heli-tacks, and carving more than drag racing.

And thank you for the enlightenment on PB vs Tuttle. Honestly, my only reason for sticking with the PB fin comes down to $$ and simplicity. I already have a decent selection of fins and I don't want to add more. This is such a gear intensive sport as it is! Much to the chagrin and amusement of my wife (a kiter who laughs while I lug my gear boxes around and struggle getting things on the roof of the truck!). Funny thing is... I'm a snowkiter and I love the simplicity of kiting. Just slap on the harness, launch the kite, and off you go. But when it comes to h20, I much prefer ripping across the water with the sail in my hands!

Be safe out there everyone. This Covid19 epidemic is no joke!
