My beloved Fanatic Cross 120 (116L) is now 15 years old and doing very fine for my conditions, but starting to think about the next one. It very commonly gets used in 6.0 conditions because of fluky off shore gusty winds on L Michigan or to get through shorebreak when it is a bit light on shore. I also want to use an 8.0 HotSails GPX on it. I have to uphaul it occasionally, and the 64 cm wide Cross is getting a bit dicey sometimes in chop at my age.
From my research boards that might fit this bill are Fanatic Blast 115, Exocet Cross 114, and Severne Fox 120. If it sailed exactly the same as my Fanatic Cross with the 6.0 and was a bit easier to uphaul and handled the 8.0 slightly better I'd be completely happy. |

Depending on your weight you could look at the rocket 115 or 125. 3s classic has thick pads and narrow tail the smooth out the ride... |

Been sailing an Exocet Cross 114 for 2-3 years now, love it! I use mine with a 4-cam 7.8 race sail and a 40 cm. fin quite often, feels totally comfortable, even when lit up. Had several Exocets through the years, never rode one I didn't love. _________________ Spennie the Wind Junkie

I have an older Exocet S-Cross 126 that I'll probably never sell. Works well for me at 210 pounds in flat water and open ocean. 7.0 is the sweet spot for me. I wouldn't call it a chop-eating machine, but found the ride smoother than average.

Could ditch the 8.0 as well, not great in a shore break though.

Smooth riding boards need more power to plane and stay planing.
Kinda antithesis to "6-8 meter sails".
A freeride with lots of V and a touch of concave. |
