White van would virtually eliminate the potential for heat issues. Removing vent plugs can be debated to no end. I had a maroon dodge cargo van for several years and kept gear in year round - never had any issues resulting from heat or cold with the five or so boards I stored in it.

Another consideration, beware of potential issues related to storing wet gear inside a vehicle for extended periods. The floor in my van began to rust out pretty badly under the sails. I believe that may have been partially due to a design flaw of the Dodges from that era, but none the less, having wet stuff in your van all the time is probably not the best thing for it.

IIRC, the majority vote went to fugheddaboutit, with legitimate objection from people whose boards were destroyed by closed vents (maybe because they had some water in them?)

I've been keeping my boards in a van 12 months of the year since 2003. I never remove the vent plugs. I've never had any trouble. Of the four boards living in the van, they've been there from 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2013 respectively.

2003 white Econoline.

I have a white 1999 Ford Econoline van. Always parked outside (13 years in Texas and, 7 on the east coast) and never an issue. Three boards stay there all the time (two with closed vents) and a fourth small board goes in and out as needed. My last two summers in Texas had 60+ days of 100 degree heat.

You know guys, you don't have to take them out, just loosen them a turn or two. The manufacturers recommend it, Eva Hollman is fanatical about it, takes 2 seconds. I've kept my boards in my (white) van for decades, never had a problem, but I loosen my vent plugs every time.

Only one decade of van storage.
Never touch valve, never rinse gear, never a problem.

A recipe for disaster if I've ever heard one. I didn't trust my memory that much for ANYTHING even before my chemotherapy.

I have to agree with isobars. It's quite possible that forgetting about loose or removed vent plugs has caused more harm than never loosening them except for air travel.

We usually have 5 boards in the van and never loosen the plugs. Two boards had delamination issues over time. With one of the boards, I thought that it may have been a issue with water inside that might have been avoided by opening the vent plug before a long trip (Cape Cod to Texas). But when I opened it up, there was no sign of water. For large regions, there also was no sign of epoxy connecting the sandwich and the core. It was amazing that the board had made it through 100+ sessions!
The other board had a top delam from heavy use (~150 sessions) and (again) very light construction. The foam was crushed over a wide area. I can't see how opening the vent valve could possibly have helped.

I leave my boards inside my van pretty much all season in Hood River. No damage (from being in the van) to any boards, but I did lose one board to
a complete bottom delam in Utah after a particularly hot day there with
the board stored inside the van.

So what do I do now. I leave the vents closed all the time. For me the
risk of destruction is way lower than the risk I might forget to put the vent plug back in or seal it up, plus frankly, I don't need or want 1 more thing
to do while rigging.

Forgetting to install the vent screw is interesting, do you remember to install pants when you wake up?
Take your medications / vitamins? File your tax return ETC ETC etc
