Pull harder, until it comes free with another click. That will completely disengage the pins so you can remove the tailpiece. The collar is then free to wobble around, so you may need to realign the collar to re-insert the pins.

There are 2 types of 2-pin, the metal ones that pull straight out and the hinged composite ones. You are supposed to take the hinged ones off by whacking on a board that is touching the edge of the collar. Mine were glued on, havent whacked hard enough, so I am using boom by duck taping the broken pin pieces into the holes. Mine was supposedly a bad batch of collars, the hinges crumbled almost immediately.

Have Chinook send you some new ones. You won't find better service anywhere.

They did send me new ones, I havent installed because it is too hard to take off the old one, hammer and board havent worked. Many people I know are changing collars every season because the composite pins break off. My duck tape system works because I can visualize the pin holes exactly. I suspect the composite pins fail when they are stressed by being pushed in when the hole is slightly misaligned, and the pin pushes the boom arm into alignment.

Sometimes you really have to whack those suckers hard to get them off. Try hitting your 2X4 with a big rubber mallet. I sometimes have more success with that than just a hammer. Or, if you're in the neighborhood,
just cruise into Chinook. They'll do it for you.

Found a good method to remove difficult glued on collars on a Severne video. He used a large adjustable wrench opened up just to the diameter of the boom tube, and placed it against the boom collar. This provides a very stable surface to whack with a hammer, won't slip off the edge of the collar. A couple of very sharp whacks broke the glue loose. Heating up with a hair dryer may have helped too. I hope the replacements last.
