Great cartoons are always appreciated, and mo's been quite busy lately. I noticed the storyline theme on the last one was thanks to JP. Excellent work.
Too bad our rad dude from the Great Northwest elects to ignore reality. He's missing a great opportunity to see his hubris laid bare in the arena.
An interesting lesson overall. One always reaps what they sow. |

What can I say SW? It just came to me but it was Mo's talent that brought it to life. |

If I actually thought the libs here wanted to know how well their Grand Poobah's social programs agenda will work, I'd suggest they read Murray's classic analysis thereof, "Losing Ground American Social Policy 1950-1980". Based on data rather than BS and bleeding hearts, it is widely regarded as the book that ended welfare. A source you'll have to Google says of it, "The welfare state so carefully built up in the 1960s and 1970s had created a system of disincentives for people to better their own lives. ... By doling out dollars at a rate that could not be matched by the economy, the system encouraged the poor to stay home. ... By lowering the punishment for criminal activity (which was deemed to be society's fault and not the perpetrator - who was seen as a victim) it encouraged more criminal activity and longer criminal records. By pointing all this out in convincing fashion with graphs, statistics and well-reasoned argument Charles Murray spawned a movement that would ultimately result in welfare reform in 1996. The results of the reform were manifest in the economy and in society almost immediately. Charles Murray since then has had the opportunity to bask in the glow of being proven right."
Either the present administration hasn't read it, doesn't care (as Obama said to Charlie Gibson), or excuses the entire result with the subsequent dot com boom. |

Charles Murray, of course, is the genius who has brought us the "Bell Curve: Intelligence and Class Structure in American Society." The title says it all: Low IQ leads to social and economical failure. He measures that by income, employment, imprisonment, teen pregnancy etc. - a catalogue of problems that disproportionally affect minorities in this county.
It's a work that exemplifies what kind of science you end up with if you start with an opinion instead of laying out a value-neutral research methodology.
In his defense, you could say that he might be confusing cause and effect; perhaps overseeing the possibility that poverty prevents you from fully developing your potential - socially as well as in measurable cognitive intelligence. However, his ideology clearly outlined in the title and every available synopsis of his works, is clearly one that favors the restriction of public assistance to aid that development.
Now there is only one explanation left: Murray believes that somehow a low IQ - the main determining factor for one's social and economic career - is a genetic premise, a quality one is born with. Or, as Bob Herbert writes bluntly in the NY Times: "[bell curve] is just a genteel way of calling somebody a nigger."
Doesn't seem to bother Isobars at all. _________________ florian - ny22
