Im 26 student (i.e., poor), have windsurfed once, and LOVED it. Im going to Miami / Florida keys ~3/26/04 for about 1 week.
Im looking for a good place to windsurf, rent, and get lessons. Any recommendation on which beaches to go to? How about specific shops or companies? Any other advice? |

I dont know about the keys, but theres a place on Virginia Key (thats in Miami) that rents gear pretty reasonably out of a trailer. Go over the rickenbacker causeway towards Marine world/key biscayne. Theyre just over the first bridge in the right hand parking lot. Have fun! |

There are a couple of places at Key West that rent beginner type (read old and low tech) equipment. Not much else that I saw when down there in December. It is too bad .... but the Rickenbacker Causeway option is probably your best bet. contact: sailboardsmiami@juno.com or phone 305-361-sail. Have fun! |

If youre in Islamorada, go to Cheeca Lodge (mm82)and talk to Gilles. He rents pretty good gear off of the beach. Also gives lessons. |

Yes they seem to rent good gear, but the way they are set up is not necessarily best for a one time beginner. Check out http://www.floridakeyswindsurfing.com/. Seem to deliver equipment to you at your rental location or you can rent at a very exclusive spa.
From what I saw, Learn to Windsurf in Two Hours. Guaranteed. at Sailboards Miami seems better for the beginner.
Anyway, I imagine a decision has been made and jsmin has checked out the suggestions (and www.waterplay.com) and made his or her decision.
