|
|
I have a fairly new Chinook carbon boom whose grip is getting ripped up.
What are the best ways to repair it? Should I try to glue it back (What glue works best?) and cover it with tape?
Is it better to wait for it to disintegrate and just regrip the boom?
Thanks for any helpful advice. |

Barge yellow or clear contact cement. Follow instructions.
A complete re grip costs 80-125 dollars....well worth the 3 hour labor.
Grip material costs 22 bucks. |

Shrink wrap material for fishing rods works great for regripping, and call also be used for smaller areas. It is a bit thinner than the material on Chinook booms, so you'll end up with a smaller diameter. Less work than glueing, and easy to re-do in the future.
But to just glue small pieces back on, use barge cement. |

If it's confined sections 6-12 inches its not a lot of work to replace a section by stripping it off, cleaning, replacing a section with a minimal seam between old and new section. A lot less work than replacing the whole thing if only specific parts get ripped up (as is often the case). |

I find the less grip, the lighter it is, and absorbs/holds less water, and easier on the calluses. Direct hand to carbon feel ! |

Great, I only have a few boom cuts, so I will try the contact cement first!
I did not know about all the other options (like the golf regrip)
Thanks, everyone! |
