https://www.surfertoday.com/windsurfing/why-a-1987-windsurfer-rescue-matters-so-much-today

They need to verify that John was rescued in 1987 from Coyote Point to verify a USCG Lifesaving Medal for a retired USCG officer.

"John is an Asian engineer aged around 30. But he could be 25 or 35; it's hard to say today - medium height and weight.

"He was an engineer from Denver, visiting his friend who lived in the Bay area. They had gone windsurfing, but winds were unusually strong that day with very choppy waters," remembers Chuck Dougherty."

Thanks for passing along the message although I don't think your middle name makes the message more effective...

That's what you meant, right? Very Happy

In 1987, I could have been rescued , but wasn’t , John was a silly reference .
Hope you find him.

Around 1987 I was a beginning windsurfer 31 yo Asian (in STEM) and I sailed once in my life at Coyote Point on my Fanatic Bat and stock sail and was having a decent time but got overpowered, flailed to uphaul, but got back OK. Remember shoving my front arm forward as hard as I could to prevent backwinding. I could see someone having trouble, it seems very benign place to sail. Got spooked, never sailed there again, stuck to Berkeley, Larkspur, and then my closest spot Crissy after I learned to waterstart.

The group, Old School Windsurfers, on Facebook might have someone who knows of the incident. Here is a link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/oldschoolwindsurfers/
