Have you seen a spacer box or filler to take up the air space at the top of the fin to keep it from filling with water?
But also to keep the fin from trying to go so deep into the box.
Anyone ever busted their fin box from tightening down the fin? |

Tighten only finger power, not arm power.
Load is tapered front/back, held by snug sides.
Fins below 44cm don't need deep box. |

In the custom boards I've bought from Mike Zajicek, he fashioned an insert made from styrofoam. While the styrofoam can take on an insignificant amount of water, it still displaces the majority of water that can intrude.
If you really want to go premium, you could glue different layers of closed cell foam, like NSI padding material, and fashion a plug with screwholes that simply wedges into the top of the cavity. However, if you use both deep Tuttle and standard Tuttle fins in your board, you would need to make two different plugs. Needless to say, changing them out for different fins might prove a bit difficult if you wedge them in too tightly. |

I would think a small chunk of pink foam insulation from Home Depot would do the trick.
As said above, only snug the screws. If you can not get the bottom of the fin to sit flush with the board using moderate torque on the screws, then the fin base needs to be adjusted. Don’t attempt to pull the fin flush by cranking down on the screws.
